Google has started rolling out a new version of the Gemini app to Galaxy (and other Android) smartphones and iPhones. The update brings a slightly refreshed menu design and the Audio Overviews feature.
This feature is now available on Galaxy phones and tablets.
Gemini gets a new menu design to introduce Canvas for generating documents
Earlier this week, Google introduced a new Gemini feature called Gemini Canvas. It offers you more options to create and edit documents. The feature was previously available on the web, and now, it is available on Android and iOS smartphones.

To introduce this feature, Google has redesigned (via 9To5Google) the ‘Plus' menu, which now displays Camera, Drive, Files, and Gallery side by side instead of in a vertical layout. Below those four options, Google has added Canvas and Deep Research options. The Deep Research option gives you in-depth answers; you don't need to select the Gemini Advanced model from the top of the screen.
The Canvas option helps you create documents and code. Unlike on the web, Canvas doesn't have a split-screen layout. So, you have to click the ‘Open' button every time you want to see the edits you made using Gemini. In this view, you can redo/undo changes and share the document with others.

Gemini gets Audio Overviews to create podcasts from documents
Another new feature is Audio Overviews (via 9To5Google). When you upload a document or slideshow in the app, you can ‘Generate Audio Overview,' which creates an audio file in which two AI agents discuss the document in podcast format. This is a better way to learn about the document's contents while saving time.
The app takes a few minutes to create Audio Overviews and sends you a notification once the audio is ready. However, there is no built-in audio player inside Gemini, so you can either download the audio file and play it using the app of your choice or let Gemini open the audio file on a separate webpage using your phone's default web browser.
